Donald Trump and Republican kingmaker Karl Rove, who've been at loggerheads over the past year, held a secret meeting two weeks ago,
The New York Times reports.
Rove, who's branded Trump "a complete idiot," and the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, who's labeled Rove as a "sad" man, broke bread at the New York City home of billionaire casino tycoon Steve Wynn, according to the newspaper.
Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski called the private get-together a "good meeting."
But the Times' Maggie Haberman writes: "The purpose of the meeting was unclear, although Mr. Rove is the last strategist to help elect a Republican president, and Mr. Trump is lagging organizationally for the general election.
"If détente was the goal, the meeting did not appear to have a lasting effect: the morning after Mr. Trump's freewheeling, media-bashing news conference last Tuesday, Mr. Rove was deeply critical of his performance."
Rove, an influential American GOP consultant and policy advisor, was senior advisor and deputy chief of staff under President George W. Bush.
