President Donald Trump called on his supporters to choose the winner of the "Fake News Trophy" before the end of 2017.
In an email sent to supports from the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, "At President Trump's request, we are holding a contest to name the 2017 KING of Fake News. And we want to hear from you," the email read, according to the Washington Examiner.
The fundraising email links to a poll allowing voters to "Crown the King of Fake News."
The poll references ABC News, CNN, and Time magazine and incidents such as ABC News "mistakenly" reporting that Trump directed Michael Flynn to make contact with Russian officials before the election.
The poll asks for voters to choose "fake news," "faker news," "fakest news" or "other, please specify."
"Americans are sick and tired of being lied to, insulted, and treated with outright condescension," the fundraising email said.
In November, the president suggested in a tweet a contest to choose which network "not including Fox" would win such a trophy.
However, a majority of voters in a Rasmussen poll conducted after Trump sent the tweet showed they believe Fox News should win a fake news award.
