Trump Demands ICE, Border Patrol Funding Bill by June 1

By    |   Wednesday, 01 April 2026 02:43 PM EDT

President Donald Trump on Wednesday informed the Republican-controlled Congress he wants a bill to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol on his desk by June 1.

In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump praised law enforcement officers and made clear that securing full funding for immigration enforcement agencies is a top priority for his administration.

"Republicans fully support our great men and women of law enforcement — maybe the word should be LOVE!" Trump wrote.

"America thanks each and every one of our wonderful Police, Border Patrol, ICE, and others, for their work to protect our country."

Trump sharply criticized Democrats, accusing them of undermining law enforcement and border security while promoting policies that he said have led to rising crime and illegal immigration.

"Democrats want to defund the police, Border Patrol, and all immigration enforcement," Trump wrote. "They want to allow Criminals, the Mentally Insane, and Lunatics from all over the World to come into our Country, totally unvetted and unchecked, putting Americans in serious danger."

The president said Republicans are moving forward with a legislative strategy that would allow them to pass funding for ICE and Border Patrol without relying on Democrat votes, potentially bypassing the Senate filibuster.

"We are going forward to fund our incredible ICE Agents and Border Patrol through a process that doesn't need Radical Left Democrat votes, and bypasses the Senate Filibuster (which should be repealed, IMMEDIATELY!), working in close conjunction with House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate [Majority] Leader John Thune," Trump wrote.

"We are going to work as fast, and as focused, as possible to replenish funding for our Border and ICE Agents, and the Radical Left Democrats won't be able to stop us. We will not allow them to hurt the families of these Great Patriots by defunding them," Trump continued.

"I am asking that the Bill be on my desk NO LATER than June 1st," he wrote.

Trump added the American public should not have to wait for bipartisan agreement.

"Our law enforcement officers and the American people should not have to wait until the Democrats see reason," he wrote.

The push comes amid ongoing tensions in Washington over government funding and immigration policy, with Republicans prioritizing border security after years of record illegal crossings under the Biden administration.

Trump also said his administration is using existing funding mechanisms to ensure agents continue to be paid during the current standoff, referencing resources from what he called the "Great Big Beautiful Bill."

"ICE and Border Patrol agents are paid on time and in full," he said, adding that enforcement operations will continue uninterrupted.

Trump also used the moment to rally political support ahead of upcoming elections, urging voters to back Republican candidates who prioritize border security and law enforcement funding.

"Through simple unification, Republicans can do this without the Democrats," he said.

As Congress faces mounting pressure to resolve funding disputes, Trump's directive underscores the administration's focus on strengthening immigration enforcement — and its willingness to pursue aggressive legislative tactics to achieve that goal.
