Fifty-four percent of Americans believe President Donald Trump will be re-elected in 2020, according to a CNN poll released Wednesday.
Trump is set to formally announce his re-election campaign on June 18.
The poll, conducted by SSRS May 28-31, also found the following:
- 52% approve of the way Trump is handling the economy, compared with 41% who disapprove
- 54% disapprove of the way the president is handling immigration, compared with 41% who approve
- 38% say Iran represents a moderately serious threat to the United States, while 28% say the Middle East country represents a very serious threat
- 49% disapprove of the way Trump is handling helping the middle class, while 44% approve
- 47% say they disapprove of how he is handling foreign trade, while 41% approve
The 2020 predictions are a reversal from November when 51% of Americans said they thought Trump would lose. Comparatively, 50% of Americans polled by CNN on May 2, 2011, thought former President Barack Obama would win reelection compared with 44% who thought he would lose.
