The numbers are close enough in Georgia's Senate runoff race that the winners could send a split delegation to Washington, D.C., with Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler keeping her seat and Democrat Jon Ossoff defeating incumbent GOP Sen. David Perdue for his post, Trafalgar Group chief pollster Robert Cahaly told Newsmax TV Saturday night.
"You have to look at the difference between Loeffler and Perdue and the difference going on with Ossoff," Cahaly said on Newsmax TV's pre-Trump rally programming. "Ossoff is much more a Beto (O'Rourke) type character who has appeal to some independents and moderates."
He added that Ossoff has the same kind of appeal to "suburban moms, moderate Republican women" that Loeffler has.
"They like Loeffler, but they kinda like Ossoff, too," Cahaly said.
A recent poll shows Perdue and Ossoff race is very close, with the Democrat ahead by one percentage point, but the race between Loeffler and Democrat challenger Raphael Warnock shows Loeffler ahead by five points.
But Cahaly said both races will be "very, very competitive."
"I put a tweet out when I put the poll out that said this is based on our assumptions of all the ballots that we expect to be counted, both those above and below the table," said Cahaly. "I think you have to build in some of that, just assume that's going to happen again."
Meanwhile, Cahaly said Republicans in Georgia are nervous about voters not showing up to cast ballots because of the reported irregularities in the presidential election, and its incumbent for officials to show those who are leery what will be done to change matters.
"There will be a lot of Republicans who will be losing primaries in 2022 if they take the same tack that was taken the last month," said Cahaly.
