Republican Pat Toomey’s race against Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania has shot from leans GOP to solid GOP in Rasmussen Reports’ Senate Balance of Power Rankings. Toomey moved within a hair of 50 percent support among likely voters as he opened a 10-point lead over Sestak for the widest margin since early April.
Toomey’s 49 percent is the same as two weeks ago, but Sestak dropped a point to fall into a double-digit gap. A formidable 10 percent remain undecided less than three weeks before Election Day, Rasmussen noted.
Sestak has been playing catch-up ball with Toomey in every survey since February, except for a bump up after he beat incumbent Arlen Specter in the Democratic primary in May.
The candidates, whose new numbers come from a phone survey of 750 likely voters on Oct. 12, will square off in their first debate next week.
