Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., said Sunday President Donald Trump’s “personality” and “character traits” turned off many voters, but that it was “radicalism” Americans rejected in Tuesday's election.
In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” Toomey, whose state cinched a win for challenger Joe Biden, said Democrats got a “wake-up call.”
“This was a rejection of the radicalism that has increasingly been the driving force in the Democratic Party,” he said. “The woke Left had a major setback.”
“There’s no question that personality traits and character traits of the president rubbed a lot of people the wrong way… and that was probably problematic for the president,” he said.
But he said there’s no question Trump’s policies are a success with Americans.
“The policies have been accepted. And the broad victories for Republicans down-ballot show that,” he said.
“Seventy million Americans voted for Donald Trump… They and the president deserve to have this play out,” he said of recounts and investigations underway,
“The media projection is probably correct,” he added of a Biden win. “Let’s let this come to its proper conclusion.”
