Sen. Toomey: Occupy Wall Street Needs Focus to Survive

By    |   Monday, 17 October 2011 04:47 PM EDT

The Occupy Wall Street movement needs to have some clear goals if it wants to have any staying power, says freshman Sen. Pat Toomey, himself the beneficiary of the tea party movement in the 2010 election.

“I’m not sure this movement is going to last if it doesn’t have some reasonably clear and cogent purpose and message, and so far I haven’t seen that,” the Pennsylvania Republican told his home state's WKOK news radio, The Hill reports.  “For the most part there just doesn’t seem to be a coherent message.”

Toomey’s criticism of Occupy Wall Street resembles that of tea party leaders. “I understand a lot of discontent, but some of these folks, I think it’s really not clear what they’re advocating for, what their solution is,” the senator said. “Some of them are pretty radical: You see the occasional sign that says ‘Karl Marx was right.’”
