GOP Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania is no longer being targeted by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun violence organization.
Mayors Against Illegal Guns said on Wednesday that it was dropping its ads against Toomey after he agreed to a compromise on background checks for commercial gun sales, Politico reports.
“Following the announcement today that Senator Pat Toomey joined West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin in co-sponsoring bipartisan legislation to require background checks for commercial gun sales – including at gun shows and online – Mayors Against Illegal Guns announced that it would stop airing ads in Pennsylvania and thanked Senator Toomey for standing with Pennsylvanians and supporting this commonsense legislation,” the group said in a statement published by Politico.
The group released ads on Tuesday in Pennsylvania, urging citizens to call on Toomey to support a bipartisan agreement on background checks, Politico reports.
