Former President George W. Bush, who raised eyebrows by bluntly
declaring his dislike of conservative Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, is out of touch with Republicans in the Lone Star State, former House majority leader Tom DeLay tells
Newsmax TV.
In an interview with "Newxmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth on Friday, DeLay says Cruz, a GOP presidential candidate, has strong conservative support in his home state.
"The Texas conservatives elected Ted Cruz to the United States Senate and beat a very powerful lieutenant governor that he ran against," DeLay said.
"And I'll tell you what, Texas is rallying around Ted Cruz right now."
"George W. needs to get into Texas a little more often," DeLay added.

Politico reports the former president shocked donors at a campaign event last Sunday for Jeb Bush's presidential campaign by saying of Cruz, "I just don’t like the guy."
According to Politico, Bush particularly doesn't like the alliance of Cruz and front-running presidential contender Donald Trump.
But Cruz said he wouldn't bash back, noting "I met my wife Heidi working on [George W. Bush's] campaign, and so I will always be grateful to him."
