President Donald Trump leads former Vice President Joe Biden by just one percentage point in Texas 48-47, according to a CNN poll released Wednesday.
Additionally, 50% disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job, compared with 42% who approve.
Trump holds significant leads over three other Democratic contenders, though, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. (51-44); South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg (50-43); and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. (50-43).
Texas was won by Trump in 2016 by a 9% margin over Democrat Hillary Clinton. The state has voted Republican since 1980 when Ronald Reagan, running with George H.W. Bush as his vice president, defeated Democrat Jimmy Carter.
The CNN poll also found Trump falls behind Warren, Biden, Sanders, and Buttigieg by double-digit margins in California.
CNN's Texas poll surveyed 1,025 adults from Dec. 4-8 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points. The California poll surveyed 1,203 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
