Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., said Thursday that he's unsure Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., will "partner" with him on firearm legislation.
The day after he and Rubio took part in a CNN town hall to discus gun control, Deutch praised the senator for indicating that he would support certain regulations on guns in an interview on CNN's "New Day."
"I don't know what the right number is," Rubio said on Wednesday. "We'll have to get into that debate. But that is something that I believe we can reach a compromise in this country and that I'm willing to reconsider."
"I'm glad he's rethinking. I hope he finishes rethinking by the time he gets back to Washington," said Deutch, who represents the district where the shooting at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School took place.
"He doesn't agree, clearly, with what the Supreme Court said that there are limitations to Second Amendment rights," he added.
Rubio, the only Republican to attend the town hall, was grilled for his strong opposition to gun control and his continued acceptance of donations from the National Rifle Association.
"I want him to be a partner on these issues," Deutch said. "Of course, we should move forward. I, and I think a lot of people, are more than a little skeptical."
