Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said it is critical for conservatives to go the polls in big numbers this November to counter the expected "massive" turnout by Democrats.
Cruz made his remarks during a Friday interview on Fox Business Network’s "Mornings with Maria."
"This election comes out entirely on turnout," he said. "The danger is complacency. The danger is too many conservatives stay home. If that happens we could lose both (chambers) of Congress. It could be really ugly.
"On the other hand, if conservatives are really motivated and show up to vote, we could hold the House and grow our Senate majority up to 55 or 56.
But he conceded the situation is "volatile."
"I think the extreme left is angry and energized," he said. "I think we’re going to see massive Democratic turnout in November. The good news is that (in) most of the states up in November, including my home state of Texas, there are a lot more conservatives than there are liberals."
President Donald Trump recently said he is planning a "major rally" in Texas to support Cruz, who is facing surprising challenge from Democrat Beto O’Rourke
O’Rourke has been the senator’s equal in fundraising while running a strong campaign.
