The Republican challenger in the Senate race in Wisconsin is now locked in a virtual dead heat with Democratic incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a new poll shows.
The Marquette University Law School survey Wednesday found that among voters likely to go to the polls in the Nov. 6 election, Baldwin was the choice of 49 percent and Republican Leah Vukmir pulled in 47 percent — within the survey’s 4.5 percentage point margin of error.
Among the wider pool of registered voters, Baldwin led Vukmir by 51 percent to 43 percent. In June, Baldwin held a 9-point advantage over Vukmir among registered voters.
Since Vukmir’s primary win Aug. 14, she’s enjoyed a bounce among registered voters, with 48 percent of those surveyed saying they didn’t have an opinion on her compared with 66 percent who said so in July, the Journal Sentinel reported.
In the midterm elections, Democrats need to protect nearly all of the Senate Democrats running for reelection in states that President Donald Trump won — like Wisconsin — and turnover the seats of at least two Republicans in competitive states to command a majority in the upper chamber, The Washington Post has reported.
