Former Surgeon General Carmona Considers Running for Office Again

By    |   Tuesday, 08 January 2013 03:10 PM EST

Richard Carmona, the former Democratic U.S. surgeon general, who lost his bid for an Arizona Senate seat to Republican Jeff Flake in November, says he may run for office again.

His spokesman originally offered that information to The Arizona Republic last week, and Carmona himself told Politico Monday that he also would consider an appointed office, though he didn’t specify what he had in mind.

Democrats see Carmona as a strong gubernatorial candidate in 2014, when Republican Gov. Jan Brewer is retireD from office. “I’ve had a lot of people reaching out to me, wanting me to come back to Washington in an appointed position [or] run for office,” Carmona said. “I’m happy to serve again in this administration or another administration, if the appropriate position opens up.”
