CNN host Brian Stelter says President Donald Trump is winning the messaging war about impeachment.
“[Trump’s] lying constantly,” Stelter said on his show, “Reliable Sources,” Sunday morning.
“Yet he’s winning the messaging war. It’s a remarkable situation to see that in September of 2019, that this is the conversation about what the Democrats may or may not do as they inch their way toward impeachment.”
Stelter said the list of impeachable offenses against Trump grows longer by the week but said the “political coverage is usually about the process, not the substance.”
“To be fair to the reporters chasing the story every day, they are covering the story because the process is a mess,” he said. “The mixed messages have become the story instead of the substance.”
The House Judiciary Committee on Thursday voted in favor of a new resolution formalizing the impeachment inquiry against Trump as Democrats continue to push for Congress to hold the president accountable for his actions.
Committee chairman Jerry Nadler called the committee’s actions an impeachment inquiry.
"It has been an impeachment inquiry and it continues to be,” Nadler said last week. “We are examining the various malfeasances of the president with the view toward possibly, the possibility, of introducing, of recommending articles of impeachment to the House. That is what an impeachment inquiry is.”
