State Department official Gabriel Noronha has been fired from his post after sending a tweet saying President Donald Trump was unfit for office, reports CNN.

''President Trump fomented an insurrectionist mob that attacked the Capitol today,'' Noronha tweeted Wednesday after demonstrators stormed the U.S. Capitol as lawmakers were working to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election. ''He continues to take every opportunity to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power. These actions threaten our democracy and our Republic. Trump is entirely unfit to remain in office, and needs to go.

''All government officials swear to uphold and defend the constitution,'' he added. ''That is where our loyalties must lie - not to any man or political party. @JoeBiden has won the election for President and we must all work together to rebuild our economy and defend our nation.''

Several Trump administration officials resigned after the Capitol riot, including Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, U.S. special envoy for Northern Ireland Mick Mulvaney, deputy national security adviser Matthew Pottinger and Stephanie Grisham, First Lady Melania Trump's chief of staff and a former press secretary to the president.
