Almost two-thirds of registered voters think President Donald Trump should voluntarily submit to an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller, a new poll shows.
The USA Today/Suffolk University survey released Wednesday found 63 percent of respondents — including nearly one-third of Republicans — said the president should sit down for an interview with Mueller, while 27 percent disagree.
The poll also found 69 percent of voters believe Russia made a serious effort to meddle in the 2016 election, with 21 percent disagreeing.
And while 55 percent said Mueller's probe of the issue is fair and accurate — and should take as much time as needed to finish — 33 percent said they had little or no trust in the special counsel's probe, and 40 percent said it should be wrapped up as soon as possible, the poll found.
Voters are split on the issue of impeachment, with 44 percent supporting and 47 percent opposing impeaching the president, the poll found.
The poll was conducted after former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was convicted of tax and bank fraud charges, and former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to bank and tax fraud charges and campaign finance violations. Both cases were initiated by the Mueller team.
The telephone survey's margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
