Special counsel Robert Mueller "is not satisfied" and has tried in recent weeks to set up an in-person interview with President Donald Trump for the Russia investigation, according to a new report.

CNN reported Monday evening that Mueller asked Trump's legal team if he could ask follow-up questions to the written answers Trump provided to the special counsel's office. The lawyers, however, denied the request.

"Mueller is not satisfied," a source told CNN.

Trump's legal team and Mueller have not addressed the matter with each other in roughly five weeks, according to CNN, after the initial request was turned down.

Trump wrote answers to a list of several questions Mueller provided him in the fall. The responses were sent back to Mueller's office the week of Thanksgiving.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, now one of Trump's lawyers, acknowledged after the answers were submitted that Mueller might have follow-ups. But last month, Giuliani said Trump would sit down for an in-person interview with Mueller "over my dead body."

Mueller's probe began in May 2017 over allegations Trump's campaign might have colluded with Russia to defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.
