The sheriff of Multnomah County, Oregon, which includes Portland, denied backing President Donald Trump shortly after the president made the claim during his debate on Tuesday night with Democrat nominee Joe Biden, Fox News reported.
“In tonight’s presidential debate the President said the ‘Portland Sheriff’ supports him,” Sheriff Mike Reese wrote on Twitter. “As the Multnomah County Sheriff I have never supported Donald Trump and will never support him.”
Reese added in another tweet that the president has made his job a “hell of a lot harder since he started talking about Portland.”
Trump made his claim about the sheriff while boasting of backing he said he has received nationwide from law enforcement, telling Biden during the debate, that “We just got the support of 250 military leaders and generals — total support — law enforcement, almost every law enforcement group in the United States. I have Florida, I have Texas, I have Ohio. I have everywhere. Excuse me, Portland, the sheriff just came out today and he said, ‘I support President Trump.’ I don’t think you have any law enforcement. You can’t even say the word law enforcement.”
Biden has reiterated that he supports law and order, according to CBS News.
The Democrat nominee also said that Trump's assertion that he supports defunding the police is not true.
