Minnesota Democrat politicians such as Rep. Ilhan Omar, Gov. Tim Walz, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey should be held accountable for their rhetoric and actions aimed at condemning and deterring federal law enforcement officers, Rep. Sheri Biggs, R-S.C., told Newsmax on Monday.
Biggs, a House Foreign Affairs Committee member, told "Wake Up America Early" host Alex Kraemer that left-wing activism and official demonization of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has created a dangerous environment for federal agents trying to do their jobs.
"In South Carolina … we support our law enforcement. We stand behind them," Biggs said. "I think it's appalling that these men and women are having to go to work every day, put their lives on the line … and have to deal with this kind of rhetoric."
Kraemer pointed to a newly circulating video of a Minneapolis 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good and her spouse allegedly harassing and following ICE officers "throughout the entire day," arguing the incident shows how public agitation can spill into confrontations on the ground.
The Minnesota flashpoint follows the fatal shooting of Good by an ICE agent during an enforcement action that has prompted intense national debate.
New video angles of the incident have surfaced as investigations continue, with federal officials saying the agent acted in self-defense while critics dispute that characterization.
Biggs also criticized Omar's high-profile appearances around ICE facilities, arguing that when elected officials show up "unannounced," it "caus[es] chaos and more problems."
Omar and other Minnesota House Democrats were denied access to an ICE detention site on Saturday amid heightened tensions, The Guardian reported.
Kraemer further connected the unrest to Minnesota's long-running fraud scandals, saying taxpayers are watching "money … going to these horrible fraudsters."
Biggs agreed that Americans "have a right to be angry," emphasizing deficits and the need to "uncover this fraud and abuse."
Recent reporting says the USDA suspended more than $129 million in awards to Minnesota and Minneapolis, citing concerns tied to fraud cases.
The Wall Street Journal has also reported on federal prosecutors alleging fraud totals exceeding $1 billion and a widening congressional probe.
On foreign policy, Biggs backed President Donald Trump's posture toward Iran, calling for "strong diplomacy and clear deterrence" while condemning reports of mass killings and internet shutdowns amid protests.
A rights group estimates that protest-related deaths have risen above 500, while other outlets have described severe internet restrictions.
