Rep. Sessions: 16-Seat House Gain Will be Sweet for GOP

Sweet 16: That’s how many seats Republicans are likely to pick up in House elections next year, adding to the GOP’s 48-seat majority, Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

To be sure, even a single addition to the Republicans’ 240-192 majority (three seats are vacant), would be gravy for the party, political pundits say.

"Representative Sessions probably wouldn't admit this, but I imagine that the GOP would be perfectly happy if no seats changed hands anywhere in the nation this year, because that would mean that Republicans would keep their healthy majority in the House," the Tribune-Review quoted University of Virginia analyst Kyle Kondik as saying.
