Club for Growth President David McIntosh praised the Senate on Saturday for passing a sweeping $1.5 trillion tax-reform bill and called on House Speaker Paul Ryan to bring it to a floor vote soon so that President Donald Trump can sign it by Christmas.
"We particularly are grateful for the hard work of conservative champions who fought tirelessly to incorporate pro-growth policies in the legislation making the list of conservative victories a long one," McIntosh said in a statement.
The Senate approved its bill in a 51-49 vote early Saturday after a hectic day that included heavy rewriting to sway skeptical Republicans and enraged Democrats charging that the legislation was being written in secret.
No Democrats supported the bill — and retiring Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker was the only GOP member to vote against it.
Republicans hold a slim 52-48 majority in the Senate.
Talks will begin, likely next week, between the Senate and the House of Representatives, which approved its own tax bill last month.
"The Club for Growth now calls on Speaker Paul Ryan to bring the Senate version of the bill to the House floor for passage next week," McIntosh said.
"The bill should arrive on President Trump's desk before Christmas, giving the American people a well-deserved present.
"If some House members have lingering concerns, Club for Growth supports efforts to take up those reforms in another tax reform bill next year," he said.
"The Club for Growth looks forward to the next steps as pro-growth tax reform, and the economic prosperity it unleashes, now becomes a reality for our nation."
