Republicans in the Senate are seeking to expand their probes of how the FBI handled the Russia investigation, with two committees slated to vote on issuing several subpoenas.
According to CNN, the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committees will vote on whether to authorize subpoenas as part of each panel's investigation. They plan to investigate whether former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic Party's presumptive presidential nominee in the November election, played a role in any wrongdoing that occurred.
Judiciary chair Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Homeland Security Chair Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin are leading the probes. Johnson's committee also is conducting another investigation into the ties Biden's son Hunter had to Ukrainian energy firm Burisma.
CNN noted that each panel's investigation will be wrapped up and have a report delivered before the election.
Former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that he would have never signed FISA warrants that authorized the FBI to spy on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page had he known that the warrant applications had problems.
