Cornyn: Senate Will Repeal and Replace Obamacare by July

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn predicted Wednesday the chamber will repeal and replace Obamacare by the middle of the summer.

During an appearance on "The Chad Hasty Show," the Texas Republican was asked if passing the GOP's Obamacare replacement bill would happen before the end of this year.

"Absolutely. We'll get it done by the end of July at the latest," Cornyn said.

Cornyn spoke at length about what Republicans call the failing Obamacare law and what needs to be done with it.

"That's something we're gonna have to get resolved here in the next few weeks, and I expect that we will," Cornyn said of the Senate passing the American Health Care Act. "I just don't think we have any choice, Chad, because Obamacare is in meltdown, people are seeing double digit increases in their premiums.

"Actually, they've gone up 105 percent since I think 2013 in the individual market, that's people who don't get their healthcare through their employer. It's in meltdown."

Cornyn noted even if Democrat Hillary Clinton had won the presidential election last fall, the Republican-controlled House and Senate would still be looking at repeal-and-replace options regarding healthcare.

"We need to help those who find themselves priced out of health insurance," he said.

Another Republican — Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. — questioned whether the Senate would be able to vote on an Obamacare replacement bill before lawmakers go on August break.

"There are some still saying that we'll vote before the August break," Flake said. "I have a hard time believing that."
