Senate Dems, Super PAC Plan $300M Ad Blitz to Keep Majority

By    |   Tuesday, 16 April 2024 04:50 PM EDT

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and a key party super PAC will be spending more than $300 million in the coming months to help Democrats maintain their hold of the Senate.

Democrats have a 51-49 majority, but the ground is shaky with Republicans in strong position to take seats in West Virginia, Montana, Ohio and Arizona. The GOP also has outside shots at victories in Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The DSCC is planning on spending $79 million on TV, radio and digital advertising in nine states, Politico reported Tuesday. The Senate Majority super PAC plans to spend $239 million to help preserve the party's majority.

Christie Roberts, executive director of the DSCC, told Politico the committee's strategy "enables the DSCC to communicate with voters in the most effective way and ensures we protect Democrats' Senate majority."

"Senate Republicans' roster of unvetted, unpopular candidates bring disqualifying personal flaws and toxic policy positions to their races — when general election voters learn about them, they'll see why they should be nowhere near the U.S. Senate," Roberts said.

The DSCC's biggest new TV ads are in presidential swing states Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, Politico reported. The DSCC will spend more than $11 million to try to keep Michigan's seat, left open when Debbie Stabenow said she wouldn't seek re-election; $10 million to defend Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin; and $8 million in aiding Sen. Bob Casey in Pennsylvania.

The DSCC also is reserving $2 million in radio ads in Montana, Politico reported, where Democrat incumbent Jon Tester likely faces the toughest Senate race in the country. The DSCC is also planning seven-figure digital advertisements in Montana, Wisconsin, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Michigan, as well as against its top two GOP targets: Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rick Scott of Florida.
