Although final polls show a Republican and Democrat emerging in the top two spots in Louisiana’s Senate race, former House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bob Livingston says two Republicans will end up vying for the seat of retiring GOP Sen. David Vitter.

“Donald Trump is so strong in Louisiana that voters will turn out and vote for John Kennedy and Charles Boustany — both of them Republicans,” former Louisiana Rep. Livingston told Newsmax. “Those Trump voters are just not going to split their tickets for any Democrat,” he added.

The final Southern Media and Opinion Research poll found State Treasurer Kennedy at 22 percent, followed by State Public Service Commissioner and Democrat Foster Campbell with 16 percent.

Southern Media showed Republican Rep, Boustany at 14 percent. Rounding out the race were Democrat Caroline Fayard at 11 percent, and GOP Rep. John Fleming with 9 percent. Tied for last place were retired U.S. Air Force Col. Rob Maness and former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke at 3 percent each.

Under Louisiana’s “jungle primary” law, all candidates, regardless of party, compete on the same ballot today. Should no candidate win a majority of votes, the top two vote getters will compete in a run-off next month.
