Former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman is continuing to contradict herself, while making "false and defamatory statements" about others, ex-White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Thursday, while reacting to her release of a tape recording of herself and President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law Lara.
"It continues to show a pattern of somebody who is on trustworthy and disloyal and willing to say or do whatever they need to get paid out for it," Spicer told Fox News "Outnumbered Overtime" host Harris Faulkner.
"She had been with the Trump organization or Mr. Trump, then candidate Trump, for 15 years...after leaving the White House she continued to praise both the president and her relationship that she had with him and his accomplishments."
But after she was offered money to write a book, that all changed, said Spicer.
In the tape, released during an MSNBC interview on Thursday, Lara Trump is heard offering Manigault Newman $15,000, or approximately what she'd been making at the White House, to work for the president's reelection campaign. The offer came just day after Manigault Newman left the White House.
She said she refused the offer, as she would have had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, and pointed to the tape as proof for claims she made in her recently released tell-all book that she and others, including Spicer, were offered payments for their loyalty. Spicer has denied the claims.
"All this tape shows is that when she came out of the White House after having the job description, praising the administration and the campaign, they said if you want to come back to the campaign, you're more than welcome to," said Spicer.
