Wisconsin Republican Sean Duffy on Wednesday said he has read "large swaths" of the GOP tax legislation that is on its way to the desk of President Donald Trump to be signed into law.

A guest on CNN's "New Day" morning program, Rep. Duffy fended off tired criticism that he hadn't read every single word of the bill but still voted for it anyway. He's read enough to know better for Wisconsin voters.

And though he hasn't read every word, at least the legislation has been out there for voters to consume, unlike Obamacare.

"I have read — I can't say every word — I've read wide swaths of it and summaries on others," Duffy said on CNN.

"It's a small text. Some of it gets complicated so I wanna … make sure I understand how this is working," Duffy said. "On some of those more complicated parts I read summaries so I make sure I understand it. Unless you're a tax expert, some of it gets to be very deep. That's why I've chosen to deal with the legislation as I have."

However, Duffy pointed out that the bill has been out there for anyone to read.

"If you do look at Obamacare, Nancy Pelosi wrote it and you had to pass it to find out what was in it," Duffy said.

Not so on tax reform.

"There was a four-day hearing in the House Ways and Means Committee … four days all day long over a month ago. The bill text has been out there for a long time," Duffy said.

"If you wanted to read or your viewers wanted to read the whole text word for word, you could do it. In Obamacare, you couldn't do it," Duffy said.
