Scott Pruitt last year opted for a larger SUV as his official car, replete with bullet-resistant seat covers, The Washington Post is reporting.
The report comes a day after both the EPA inspector general and General Accountability Office (GAO) released reports critical of the spendthrift EPA chief.
Rather than be driven in a Chevrolet Tahoe used by his predecessors, Pruitt upgraded to a higher-end Suburban with leather interior, bucket seats in the second with that were covered with Kevlar-like seat covers for extra security, the Post reports.
The seat covers were approved by the head of Pruitt's security detail, Pasquale "Nino" Perrotta, the Post reports.
Pruitt was blasted by his own watchdog for approving tens of thousands worth of raises to three agency staffers without approval from the White House, and the GAO rebuked the administrator for the $43,000 he spent on a soundproof booth in EPA offices.
His choice of first-class air travel in the name of security has already come under scrutiny throughout his first year.
