Obama Campaign Plans to Use Florida's Scott as Foil

By    |   Monday, 30 May 2011 12:03 PM EDT

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has moved strongly to implement his conservative agenda. But supporters of President Barack Obama believe that his campaign can portray Scott as an extremist to gain votes in the key swing state, Politico reports.

Rick Scott, Florida, Obama“Obviously, it gets a lot tougher for us if they put someone like Rubio on the ticket,” said Scott Arceneaux, executive director of the Florida Democratic Party. He was referring to the speculation that popular Florida Sen. Marco Rubio will emerge as the GOP vice presidential candidate.

“But Rick Scott is the standard-bearer for Republicans in Florida . . . He wants to be President Obama’s foil in Florida, and we’re more than happy to let him be just that,” Arceneaux said.

A Quinnipiac University poll last week put Scott’s approval rating at 29 percent and his disapproval rating at 57 percent.
