President Donald Trump fired back at Sen. Chuck Schumer minutes after the New York Democrat criticized him on Twitter for his administration's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Schumer tweeted shortly before 9 a.m.: "President Trump needs to harness industry to quickly produce more medical supplies and equipment under the Defense Production Act NOW. He needs to appoint a czar like a military or logistics expert to lead the effort to make and get the supplies where they’re needed."
Trump fired back minutes later, saying the military is in charge of distributing supplies to the frontline healthcare workers in the virus fight.
"Somebody please explain to Cryin' Chuck Schumer that we do have a military man in charge of distributing goods, a very talented Admiral, in fact. New York has gotten far more than any other State, including hospitals & a hospital ship, but no matter what, always complaining," Trump wrote.
He added, "It wouldn't matter if you got ten times what was needed, it would never be good enough. Unlike other states, New York unfortunately got off to a late start. You should have pushed harder. Stop complaining & find out where all of these supplies are going. Cuomo working hard!"
Vice President Mike Pence is leading the federal government's response to the virus outbreak, which has killed more than 5,000 Americans. White House senior adviser Jared Kushner is spearheading an effort behind the scenes with the private sector.
