Rep. Adam Schiff Saturday slammed President Donald Trump for calling a Democratic memo on FBI spying "very political," insisting the memo coming from Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee is based on fact.
"Mr. President, what you call 'political' are actually called facts, and your concern for sources and methods would be more convincing if you hadn’t decided to release the GOP memo (“100%”) before reading it and over the objections of the FBI," tweeted the California Democrat, his party's top representative on the committee.
Schiff's post is in response to Trump's early Saturday tweet where he called out congressional Democrats for playing political games when they submitted a Democratic response to the Republican memo concerning abuses by the FBI and Justice Department, saying they knew it would have to be "heavily redacted."
On Friday evening, the White House announced Trump was not ready to release the Democratic memo.
White House counsel Don McGahn outlined the president's concerns in a letter, stating the memo "contains numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages."
The letter says Trump encourages the House Intelligence Committee to revise the memo to mitigate risks working with the Justice Department.
The GOP memo alleges officials at the FBI and DOJ used bias against Trump's presidential campaign and improperly secured warrants to surveil Carter Page, a former foreign policy advisor to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump has tweeted the Nunes document "totally vindicates" him in the Russia probe.
