Schaeffer Brands Clapper an 'Idiot' For Anti-Trump Comments

Retired Army intelligence officer Tony Schaeffer Wednesday branded former National Director of Intelligence James Clapper as an "idiot" in response to his comments questioning President Donald Trump's fitness for office.

"Apparently Jim Clapper has a Ph.D in analyzing people remotely," Schaeffer, now a fellow with the London Center for Policy Research, told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program. "I'll be blunt about it. Jim Clapper is an idiot."

Schaeffer said he's briefed Clapper a couple of times, "and when I briefed him on operations, you see this vacant look."

He also accused the former DNI director of now being a political person who "Just parrots what he's told, and in this case, I think he's starting to roll out the new anti-Trump line that he's not fit to serve."

"'Oh my goodness, I have concerns,'" Schaeffer said, mocking Clapper. "This is what the left has become all about. It's not about facts, it's about 'oh, I think this may be this. I feel this way about it.'"

And Clapper, said Schaeffer, "is a poster child for that methodology, and this is what they're telegraphing. They're putting him out there to see how well this resonates with the CNN audience."

Schaeffer also told Fox News Clapper has "lied twice under oath to the American people," and said he wonders why anyone would consider him credible, considering his record.

Early Wednesday, Clapper told CNN's Don Lemon that he found Trump's rally in Phoenix "downright scary and disturbing."

He also denounced Trump for his "behavior and divisiveness and complete intellectual, moral, and ethical void."

"How much longer does the country have to, to borrow a phrase, endure this nightmare?" Clapper told Lemon.

He further said he believes Trump should have quit "while he was ahead" with his announcement on Monday night about Afghanistan, and that with the Phoenix rally, "the real Trump came through."

The former DNI chief also told Lemon he's worried about Trump's access to the nation's nuclear codes, warning that there's "very little to stop him" if he decides to do something about North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in a "fit of pique."
