CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta on Wednesday asserted unequivocally that President Donald Trump has heart disease.
"There's no question, by all standards, by all metrics, any way a doctor or cardiologist will look at it, the president does have heart disease," Gupta said early Wednesday on CNN's "New Day" morning program.
Those metrics:
- Trump's coronary calcium score of 133, up from 98 in 2009; anything over 100 "is concerning," Gupta said.
- Trump's cholesterol score of 223, up 50 points from last year.
- Trump is borderline obese, according to his body mass index score.
"The president has heart disease. Those numbers qualify him for having heart disease. He clearly needs a plan to try and prevent some sort of heart problem down the road," Gupta said during a second appearance on "New Day."
"It was interesting when I spoke to Dr. Jackson at first, he said, (Trump) passed all the tests with flying colors," Gupta said earlier on the program. "When I asked him specifically about (the calcium) test, did he then concede that, in fact, the president does have heart disease."
Navy Dr. Ronny Jackson, who performed Trump's physical exam, said Tuesday that Trump is already on cholesterol-lowering medication, something Gupta said they'll likely increase.
