Rudy Giuliani said he spoke with President Donald Trump on Saturday and he was sounding "exactly just like himself" and ready to show he's being a leader despite his illness.
"I think he is in an excellent position, given the fact that he's such a terrific leader to really lead the American people through this," Giuliani, who is Trump's personal attorney, said on Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria." "A lot of people have had this disease now and a lot more people are probably going to get it at some point or something similar to it. The president's shown that you don't have to be traumatized, paralyzed, incapacitated by it, that you can continue to work, you can continue to be active, you can continue to be productive."
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who worked with Giuliani to prepare Trump for his first debate with Democrat nominee Joe Biden, has tested positive for the coronavirus, along with several others in Trump's inner circle, including senior aide Hope Hicks and press secretary Kayleigh McEnany. Giuliani, though, said his own tests have come back negative.
"I was with the president and the group that you're mentioning for four straight days including two-hour, three sessions for the debate," the former New York City mayor said. "I was on Air Force One with him, sat in his office with a group of people and I don't have it. I was tested on Friday. I'll get tested again today. I have no symptoms."
Meanwhile, Trump is showing that he can continue to keep the country going and at the same time take reasonable precautions, but "if you get ill, you treat it," said Giuliani. "Illness is part of the risk that we take when we go out every day."
Trump, he added, "wants to give the American people the sense and the courage that we can get this economy really moving" despite the virus.
