The Republican Party is strongly divided between presidential candidates Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. But GOP insiders persist in their preference for vice president: Sen. Marco Rubio, even though the Florida freshman has said repeatedly that he’s not interested.

“Right now, he is head and shoulders above everybody else,” Florida Republican strategist Rick Wilson told
The Hill. Wilson backed Rubio’s 2010 Senate campaign but didn’t work for it.
Conservative columnist Cal Thomas gushes, “Rubio has the most important ingredient of any leader: vision.”
Former George W. Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen wrote about the “depressing” performance of Republican presidential candidates on foreign policy in his Washington Post blog last week.
Rubio, meanwhile, has “stepped forward to do what the other candidates should have: lay out a clear foreign policy vision,” Thiessen wrote.
