The news that Florida voters have broken an early voting record, with more than 3 million people voting on the first day alone, points to a tied race or one that's very close in the state, Sen. Marco Rubio said Wednesday.
"The president was trailing, I think, by two points right before the election the last time, and he ended up winning," the Florida Republican said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "I'd say every poll's consistently shown that a Trump supporter is much more enthusiastic about voting for Donald Trump than a Biden supporter about voting for (Joe) Biden. I think that's true on both sides, but I think that's especially true on the Republican side."
Rubio said he tried to cast an early vote on Monday, and there was already a line at 6:45 a.m. at a site down the street from his house.
"People are voting," he said. "I've never seen lines on the first day at 6:45 a.m."
Rubio said he ended up ordering a ballot through the mail and he'll drop it off instead.
He added that while the coronavirus pandemic continues, he doesn't think people "in the real world" blame Trump for the spread of the disease and the hardships it has caused.
"The vast majority of people understand the president didn't create this virus, the president didn't bring this virus to America," said Rubio.
The senator also decried the "politics of intimidation" that he says is occurring with people on the left being encouraged to approach lawmakers, after Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., tweeted that two women harangued him at an airport Tuesday over the confirmation process for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
"I don't know any senator on either side of the aisle who has changed their vote or position on the basis of this," Rubio said. "Unfortunately, it's become part of American politics where you go out in public, you hassle and harass people, and we've seen that amp up over the last year and a half, I want to be honest, primarily from the left."
