Alabama Republican Roy Moore holds an 8-point lead over Democrat Doug Jones in the race for the Senate seat to be decided in December, a new JMC Analytics poll reveals.
Here are the highlights from the Alabama survey:
- 48 percent of those polled say they support Moore, compared to 40 percent who back Jones.
- 49 percent say they would prefer to vote for a Republican candidate and 45 percent say they would prefer to cast their ballot for a Democrat.
- 51 percent of those polled approve of the job President Donald Trump is doing, while 41 percent disapprove.
"The ballot tests show Roy Moore in decent shape, but he still faces a competitive race, particularly since respondents are only narrowly inclined to support a 'generic' Republican candidate," said JMC in its report on the poll results.
The poll, conducted Sept. 20-Oct. 1, sampled 500 people. It has a margin of error of 4.4 percent.
