One of the many Roy Moore accusers has decided to run for the Florida House as a Democrat, saying that the "Republican Party is no longer the right fit for me."
Deborah Gibson announced Monday she will run against Republican Bill Hager in Florida's 89th District.
"Coming off the sidelines for the first time politically seems a natural response to realizing that too many of us, particularly women, have felt that some special mysterious qualification was needed to participate in our democratic process as a candidate," Gibson wrote in a statement posted on CrowdPac.
She has set a fundraising goal of $25,000.
Gibson, one of several women to accuse Moore of sexual misconduct, claimed that the erstwhile Senate candidate pursued her when she was a teenager. Moore's candidacy to replace Jeff Sessions' Alabama Senate seat couldn't bear the weight of the accusations; he ultimately lost to Doug Jones in a special election in December.
Gibson didn't mention Moore in her statement, but referenced the impact that the last few months have had on her.
"The past 5 months have crystallized what’s been coming to me for a decade more gradually— the Republican Party is no longer the right fit for me; I am proudly running as a Democrat," Gibson wrote.
The Florida primary is Aug. 28.
