Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Friday welcomed New Jersey Rep. Jeff Van Drew to her party, and said many other Democrats are making the shift toward supporting President Donald Trump, including showing up in high numbers at his rallies.
"As we go to rallies, we get reports as to who is attending these rallies," McDaniel told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "Close to 20% of our rally attendees are Democrats because this president transcends party lines ... because he talks about jobs and wage growth and all the things that matter to the American people."
She also said she wanted to extend a "big welcome" to Van Drew for joining the party "that's actually getting results for the American people. We hope more of your colleagues will come on over."
McDaniel's comments come as the RNC reached a record $26.7 million fundraising haul in November, and she noted that on Wednesday, the day House Democrats voted to impeach Trump, the party pulled in $5 million.
"In 48 hours, we raised $10 million between the Trump campaign and the RNC," said McDaniel. "The voters, they can't vote right now, but they can contribute. We have added 600,000 small online voters since this impeachment began, so it shows that people are really angry. They are passionate. They don't want to see Democrats take away their vote and they are doing what they can, which is to give to this president."
