Thursday's meeting between President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron is an important step in the fight against international terrorism, Rep. Ron DeSantis, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Thursday.
"France has been hit hard over the years," the Florida Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program.
"It is a major issue, and hopefully, we can work together to really pushback on the influence of Islamic terrorism throughout the west, and I know that they will see eye to eye on that."
Meanwhile, Trump is facing controversy at home after news surfaced last weekend that his son, Donald Trump Jr. agreed to meet a Russian attorney last summer, after he'd been told she had negative information about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
"It is easy to look back in hindsight," said DeSantis, pointing out that he has seen the attorney, Natalia Veselnitskaya, at congressional hearings.
"She has met with members of Congress," he said. "I'm trying to figure out if this is somebody who is a proxy for the Kremlin, why would she just be allowed to roam free in the United States Capitol and have these kinds of meetings?"
