New Romney Ads Target Specific Issues in Battleground States

The Romney campaign is tailoring its messages to the issues facing various battleground states as Election Day nears.

Fifteen new television ads — all under the banner “A Better Future” — were released in eight states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.

The 30-second spots seek to “show how we’re not better off under President Obama, and also show what Mitt Romney will do as president to create jobs and spur economic growth,” a news release said.

Each ad begins with this excerpt from GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s nomination speech at the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. last month: “This president can ask us to be patient. This president can tell us it was someone else’s fault. … But this president cannot tell us that you’re better off today than when he took office.”

After briefly explaining how each state has been affected by President Barack Obama’s policies particular to each state, the spots then explain Romney’s plans for addressing these issues.

For instance, the three ads for Virginia target energy, defense and Romney’s support for middle-class families.

“The Romney Plan for Virginia: Tax cuts for middle-class families. North American energy independence. Create over 340,000 new jobs for Virginia,” says the spot on families.

Two spots each focus on Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina and Ohio. Only one commercial each targets New Hampshire and Nevada. The issues discussed range from overregulation in Colorado and Iowa to manufacturing in Ohio and North Carolina.
