Republican presidential candidates just can’t get no respect, to borrow from deceased comedian Rodney Dangerfield. Not only do some in their own party complain that they aren’t up to the task, but the White House is trying to ignore them,
The Hill reports.

For example, candidate Tim Pawlenty blasted Obama during the president’s trip to Europe last week, criticizing him for participating in a “European pub crawl” and failing to offer an alternative Medicare reform plan.
Obama’s answer: silence.
“There’s no reason to engage them [Republican presidential candidates] directly right now,” one Democratic strategist said. “They look small and petty.”
To be sure, Obama was happy to swing at Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents Dinner several weeks back, when the Trump was still considering a presidential campaign.
Furthermore, the president may have to engage his Republican foes soon enough if he wants to avoid defeat next year.
