The math and the map favor the GOP heading into the fall midterm election because of voter concerns about the economy and Obamacare, said Sen. Rob Portman.
"We've got the math in our favor and the map in our favor. There are a lot of Republican states that are up right now that have Democrat senators. And, so we should do very well in the election," the Ohio Republican told "Fox & Friends" Monday.
The election would boil down to "good candidates," Portman explained, but said the "mood of the country" would impact the elections as well.
"People are discouraged about the economy, as they should be. It has not turned around. And, they're very concerned about Obamacare and how it's going to affect them and their families," he said.
Obamacare would continue to be an issue affecting voters, Portman predicted. He said Republicans not only wanted to repeal the law, but replace it with something more workable.
"We have a better way. And, that's to provide more coverage to people, but do it in a way where people can choose their health care provider, what doctor they want to go to," he said.
Democrats had "no proposal out there" to fix the problems from Obamacare, Portman explained. He said Americans needed a "new approach that actually is consistent with getting costs down."
