CNN Poll: Mueller's Approval Rating on Russia Probe Hits New Low

Public support for how special counsel Robert Mueller is handling the Russia investigation has reached its lowest point, signaling that President Donald Trump's attacks have had some effect, according to CNN poll results released Friday.

Mueller's approval rata on handling of the inquiry now stands at 41 percent, compared with a high of 48 percent in March and 44 percent last month, the CNN-SSRS poll said.

His disapproval ratings have also been climbing: 39 percent in the recent poll, from 38 percent last month and 35 percent in March.

President Trump has repeatedly slammed the Russia probe as a "witch hunt" and has steadily trolled it on Twitter.

Still, 55 percent of the 1,012 adults surveyed believe Russian meddling in the 2016 election is a serious matter and should be investigated, but that's down from 58 percent last month.

But 35 percent say that the investigation is an effort to discredit Trump's presidency, versus 38 percent who said it is not.

Here are some other key findings from this month's survey, conducted between last Thursday and Sunday:

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Donald Trump is handling the Russia probe?

• Disapprove: 55 percent.
• Approve: 29 percent.

If Trump is asked to testify under oath by Robert Mueller, should he?

• Yes: 68 percent.
• No: 24 percent.

Do you believe that President Trump should be impeached and removed from office?
 

• No: 51 percent.
• Yes: 42 percent.

Would you approve or disapprove of President Trump pardoning himself?

• Disapprove: 70 percent.
• Approve: 21 percent.

The CNN-SSRS poll has a margin of error of 3.7 percent.
