Actor Robert De Niro, who vented last month he would like to punch Donald Trump in the face, has put his dukes down – and is "waiting and hoping."

Before a ceremony Tuesday in Washington, where the 73-year-old Oscar-winning actor was to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country's highest civilian honor, De Niro was asked if he had a message for the president-elect.

"I would only say that we're all hoping, waiting and hoping, that he will lead the country in a way that'll benefit everyone and benefit our neighbors around the world," De Niro answered, per The Hill.

"That's all. We're waiting and hoping, and we'll see."

In video rant, De Niro blasted Trump as "blatantly stupid," and a "bullshit artist," but now describes the diatribe as "more symbolic."

"After he said the things that he said, anybody would want to punch him in the face," De Niro told reporters, The Hill reported. "Many people told me, 'You said what I'd want to say.' It's just unacceptable to say those things in the situations that he said them in."

"Now he's president-elect, and I just want to see what he's going to do."
