Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, in launching her bid for a third two-year term heading the GOP’s governing organization, pledged to uphold the party’s neutrality in primaries despite musings President Donald Trump might run for reelection in 2024, reports The Washington Examiner.
“President Trump received nearly 75 million votes, more than any sitting president in history. He’s the one our party wants to hear from right now," McDaniel said Monday in a statement. "But, I will continue to ensure the RNC remains completely neutral in competitive Republican primaries as long as I am chair. This is a policy President Trump wants to continue as well.”
McDaniel, Trump’s handpicked Republican National Committee chair, is also inviting roughly a dozen potential 2024 presidential candidates to the RNC’s January meeting in Florida, a move she’s made to show the committee will be impartial moving forward.
McDaniel last Wednesday sent an email to the committee’s 168 members in which she highlighted Trump’s endorsement but also vowed to “work to ensure that all Republican candidates can be successful.”
