You can add one more layer to the controversy surrounding the Republican National Committee. The RNC sent a letter to its 168 members Thursday refuting former political director Gentry Collins’
(pictured) criticism of the committee and its chairman Michael Steele,
Politico reports.

RNC chief of staff Mike Leavitt wrote the memo. And while he doesn’t refer to Collins by name, he responds point by point to the scathing report Collins wrote upon his departure from the RNC last month.
“Reports that have attempted to minimize the focus, energy and leadership of the RNC in securing the Republican successes of November are simply wrong,” Leavitt writes. “They rely on baseless accusations and are inaccurate.”
Steele hasn’t yet announced if he will seek re-election to his job, but already confronts several candidates, including Collins.
