Cory Booker Dismisses RNC's 'Mansplaining' Attack

Sen. Cory Booker on Wednesday dismissed Republican attacks that he was "mansplaining" Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen over her insistence she did not recall President Donald Trump referring to certain nations as "s***hole countries" last week.

"It is a little insulting to say that I should be treating Cabinet secretaries one way or another depending on their gender," the New Jersey Democrat told Jake Tapper on CNN. "These are political operatives.

"I wish they would come out and deal with real issues, like equal pay for equal work.

"I'm standing here as a United States senator in my official capacity challenging a Cabinet secretary who is lying before the Senate on an issue that affects my state as well as this nation, as well as internationally: something as serious as her lying about overt bigotry coming out of White House.

"My conduct was on point," Booker said.

During testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Nielsen told Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin she did not recall Trump using the vulgar term to refer to Haiti, Africa and El Salvador.

"Apologies," Nielsen told Durbin. "I don't remember a specific word."

Durbin was in the bipartisan meeting last Thursday on immigration — and he slammed Trump on Friday for "repeatedly" using the term.

Booker then slammed Nielsen for her response, leading Republican National Committee Rapid Response Director Michael Ahrens to rip the senator for denigrating women.

"Picture it," Ahrens said in a news release. "A male Republican senator spends his entire 10 minutes 'mansplaining' the female DHS secretary about immigration policy, throws around the term 'conscientious stupidity,' yells at her the only time she tries to speak, and concludes his diatribe without even asking her to respond."

Booker told Tapper: "I will fight against bigotry, racism, wherever I see it.

"I've benefited in years past from people doing the same."
